In late 2013, Karlsruhe offered to host EJC 2015 as the previous organizing team had stepped back. Unfortunately, Karlsruhe also had to step down after eight months of preparation work due to reasons outside of our control (see below). We were glad that a new team could take over and provided them with detailled information and support based on our preparations. Head over to www.ejc2015.org for all information on EJC 2015!
Karlsruhe, July 2014
Dear jugglers and friends of the EJC,
It is with deep regret that we announce the cancellation of the EJC 2015 in Karlsruhe.
Despite more than eight months of intense preparation and organisation work, we have been forced by external circumstances to call off the EJC.
As some of you may already have heard, the Europahalle, which was to serve as the logistical centre of the EJC (practice, registration, infopoint, workshops, bathrooms, …) was closed suddenly at the beginning of June, because it doesn’t comply with fire safety laws. This news was a big surprise for us and many other events using the same venue. The organising team put much hard work and creativity into finding alternatives – ultimately to no avail. Even our last ray of hope in the form of a gigantic tent failed at the beginning of July.
We were not only confident, but also making good progress with our project “save the EJC 2015”, which we had started last winter. We found it hard to accept, and fought as long as possible, but in the end we could no longer ignore the fact that the EJC 2015 in Karlsruhe is not feasible.
This leaves us to say THANK YOU to all those who already showed such dedication and hard work in this project. We also still hope to materialise a couple of EJC ideas in 2015, despite our great disappointment concerning the cancelled EJC: a fire convention, the kick-off for the European Juggling Days (EJD), a 300 torch celebration of the city’s anniversary and/or bigger celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Karlsruhe pyramidal juggling festival.
Best wishes from Karlsruhe
